Peninsula Players Theatre presented a reading of “Tales of Men and Ghosts” adapted by Steve Pickering from stories by Edith Wharton on Monday, March 4 to a capacity crowd at Björklunden.
“It was thrilling to hear audible reactions from the audience to this new work of classic ghost tales,” said Managing Director Brian Kelsey. “The genre of ghost stories are not often explored on stage and Peninsula Players is thrilled to help bring this work to the larger theatrical landscape.”
Participating in the reading were Peninsula Players veteran performers Cassandra Bissell (“Miss Holmes”), Neil Brookshire (“The 39 Steps”), Erica Elam (“Now and Then”), Amy Ensign (“Almost, Maine”), Kevin Christopher Fox (“The Actuary,” director); Anne Herring (“Go Back for Murder,” the reading); James Leaming (“The Hollow”) and Carmen Roman (“Alabama Story”). The cast was under the direction of Greg Vinkler, the Peninsula Players artistic director.
“Tales of Men and Ghosts” is part of the Peninsula Players winter program, The Play’s the Thing, and is funded in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin, as well as generous grants from Door County Medical Center, Friends of Door County Libraries and operating funds from Peninsula Players Theatre.
The 2019 The Play’s the Thing series also includes “The Gentleman Thief,” formerly named “Love, the Cracksman,” a new fast-paced comedy by Mark Brown on Monday, April 1 at 7 p.m. at Björklunden.
Peninsula Players Theatre is America’s Oldest Professional Resident Summer Theatre. The Play’s the Thing is part of the Players’ continuing winter outreach programming, presenting professional play readings for the public.
