Internships

About Internships at Peninsula Players Theatre

Peninsula Players Theatre seeks recent college/university graduates or current students with technical or administrative interests to become members of our 2026 summer company.

We plan on hiring two Administrative/Box Office Interns, three Scene Shop Interns, one Props Intern, one Costume Intern, one Lighting & Sound Intern, and two Stage Management Interns.

Peninsula Players Theatre is committed to creating a positive and healthy work environment. Peninsula Players Theatre celebrates equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion. As an equal-opportunity employer, we encourage individuals from underrepresented populations to apply.

Start and end dates may be somewhat flexible to accommodate school schedules. Preference will be given to candidates who can arrive in mid/late May, or early June. Similarly, preference will be given to candidates who can remain with us through the opening of our final show, in early September. Ideal candidates will be able to stay through the closing of the season/property in mid-October 2026. Highly desirable Administrative/Box Office Intern candidates will be able to stay the entire season due to the nature of the work.

Peninsula Players Theatre provides free room/board, and our cooks prepare meals in the Lodge on working days. The company is housed on the Theatre’s beautiful grounds along the shore of Green Bay. All interns share a room and bathroom with one other intern. This internship pays a $250 weekly stipend and a travel stipend equivalent to current Greyhound bus rates.

Peninsula Players Theatre provides interns with the opportunity to participate in workshops throughout the summer and fall with our professional company members. In the past, these have included mock interviews, panel discussions with our experienced staff and designers about how to get started in the theatre business, as well as how to make a living in theatre. Some workshops may be department-specific to learn advanced skills beyond what is normally taught during an internship at Peninsula Players Theatre.

All interns may earn college credit by making arrangements with their college/university.

Positions are open until filled. Applications are accepted through February 23rd, 2026.  Qualifying applicants will be contacted for further information and/or video interviews at the discretion of the Box Office Manager and/or Production Manager.  The interview process may start as early as January and could continue through April.

If you are interested in the Administrative and Production internships, please complete both applications found below.

Administrative/Box Office Interns will concentrate on all aspects of residential theatre operations, including daily box office operations, public relations, marketing, development, house management, canteen inventory management, company hospitality, and will assist the Box Office Manager, Managing Director, Marketing Director/Company Manager, and Development Director with a variety of projects.

Daily Work: Administrative/Box Office Interns directly engage with our patrons and donors on a daily basis. In the office, interns are expected to sell tickets, process donations, and assist patrons with any questions they have related to their visit to the Theatre both over the phone and in-person. Office work will also include scheduling volunteer ushers, creating social media content, data entry, and additional projects. As Peninsula Players Theatre is a residential theatre that houses its company members, interns are expected to assist in ensuring rooms are properly set up for incoming company members.

Show Duties: After company dinner, Administrative/Box Office Interns have a rotating schedule of house management and running the Canteen, which is our snack and merchandise shop. The Administrative/Box Office Interns trade off these duties weekly to ensure equal opportunities to learn both areas of operations. The House Manager is responsible for greeting and training our volunteer ushers, supervising the audience for the duration of the performance, communicating with the Manager on Duty and Stage Management, and ensuring all routine maintenance has been completed so patrons experience a clean and welcoming environment during their time with us. The intern running the Canteen is responsible for the sale of merchandise and refreshments before, during, and after performances. Responsibilities also include cash management and training production interns to assist in Canteen operations during intermission.

Below is a general list of skills we are looking for. You do not need to have all of these skills. We hope that our internship will enhance your current abilities and teach new ones.

Production Interns (Scene Shop, Props, Costumes, Lighting & Sound, Stage Management) will be involved in all productions. This includes: daily shop work, pre-show duties, running the shows, and our changeover process between productions. As part of a resident company, there will be times that all production staff and interns are asked to help with the caretaking of our home, including various projects around the property.

Daily Shop Work: Interns will work mornings and afternoons in their respective shops, building and preparing for the upcoming show. They will work closely with the other shop staff and department heads getting hands on experience and learning opportunities in their field. Through the nature of collaboration, interns may get to assist other departments and shops with various projects based on the needs of the shows. Stage Management interns will have the opportunity to be in rehearsals with AEA Stage Managers as well as assist in other shops.

Pre-Show Duties: Before curtain time, all staff members and interns take on various front-facing roles to assist our patrons and give them a welcoming experience at Peninsula Players Theatre. For interns, this includes working in our parking lots with other staff members or helping our volunteer ushers with taking tickets and handing out programs.

Running the Shows: Based on the needs of each show, production interns will be assigned to various run crew and board operator positions. These assignments may be directly related to their specific shop (i.e. the costume intern runs wardrobe). Interns may also get the opportunity to try different positions based on experience or interest. We have 6 performances each week, Tuesday-Sunday.

Changeover: Between each production we have a period we refer to as “changeover”, in which all production interns participate. This begins immediately following the closing performance of a show when we strike the stage, hang lights and sound, and begin installation of the new scenery. All production interns assist with light hang and focus and should be prepared to help outside of their department for various tasks if needed. We have a very quick tech process where interns will learn their run crew positions for the new show.
