Is 1934 Cleveland ready for the fiery temper of “Il Stupendo,” opera sensation Tito Merelli? Mayhem ensues when Tito inadvertently passes out on opening night and the panic-stricken general manager turns to his hapless assistant Max, an aspiring singer, to don Otello’s costume. Chaos builds into an operatic frenzy as Max tires to avoid Tito’s jealous wife, an ambitious female co-star, the amorous opera guild chair and even his own girlfriend! A madcap romp filled with mistaken identities that hits all the high notes. Winner of two Tony Awards, four Drama Desk Awards and one Outer Critics Circle Award.
