Love and marriage devolve into chaos and laughter when the late Elvira haunts her husband and his new wife.
While researching for his latest novel, Charles Condomine invites an eccentric medium to perform a séance at his home. Charles, his wife, and their guests are all quite skeptical, but things turn chaotic when Madame Arcati summons the ghost of Charles’ first wife, Elvira. Appearing only to Charles, Elvira is full of mischief and turns the household upside down. A smash hit comedy in London, on Broadway and around the world since 1941, Coward’s “improbable farce” is sure to delight audiences of all ages.
“A world-class comedy” – TheaterMania
“Enormous life-affirming fun” – The London Times
Nominated for eight Tony Awards
Drama Desk Award, Outstanding Revival – 2019
Notes: After his London office and flat were destroyed in the Blitz, Noël Coward headed to Wales for a holiday, where he conceived and wrote Blithe Spirit within 10 days. Coward was inspired to write his lighthearted comedy about ghosts by the many old houses and country estates he visited. This witty comedy explores the themes of love, loyalty and the complex legacy of past relationships. Patrons with specific content concerns should contact the Box Office with direct questions.
